Tell us about the work you do for Fine Point.

I am a controller and am also in charge of starting and growing the Milwaukee office for Fine Point. Part of my role is learning and participating in the startup scene in Milwaukee and finding startups that are in need of accounting and HR services.

Tell us about your educational and professional background before you arrived at FPC.

I got my masters in accountancy from Whitewater and became a CPA after I graduated. I worked in public accounting for about five years on public and private companies, with an emphasis on construction and manufacturing. After leaving public accounting I worked for a development company specializing in stadiums and hotels, including the Edgewater in Madison and the atrium at Lambeau Field. Most recently I worked for two turnaround companies serving as the CFO of both companies.

What do you like most about working at Fine Point?

I would say the culture and flexibility, in terms of being able to work from anywhere. I also like the fact that we get to work for a large variety of clients and being able to learn new things from each one.

Is there a skill you’re learning or have learned since coming to FPC that you’re particularly excited about?

I have definitely been able to learn a lot more about Quickbooks and the ecosystem of apps surrounding QBO. I have really enjoyed being able to learn more about Bill.com, Expensify. It has also been interesting learning more about all the things that Milwaukee is doing to grow the local startup ecosystem and developing how Fine Point can be a part of that.

Luella is a big reader. Any favorite business, accounting, or other books, blogs, or podcasts you like?

My favorite business book is Rich Dad, Poor Dad. It changed my way of thinking about finance and investing in yourself first. I also follow Gary Vaynerchuk for a lot of business advice which he provides through social media. Finally, my favorite TV show is the Profit with Marcus Lemonis. He invests in small businesses that need help turning things around. If I had the capital, I would love to do what he does.

When you’re not working at FPC you…..

I enjoy going to sporting events and supporting my Wisconsin sports teams. It is great seeing the Brewers doing so well in the playoffs. I also enjoy reading and going to movies a lot. Since being back in Milwaukee I really enjoy learning more about the local food and drink scene. My favorite restaurant around is La Merenda, they serve small plates from around the world.
