As summer is in full swing and events begin to resume around the city, we wanted to take this opportunity to point out some exciting things happening in the Milwaukee Area:
Summerfest Tech returns for its fourth year on September 8th. This event aims to support the region’s growing efforts in the tech space. The programming will include keynote speakers, as well as a pitch competition, in which local startups have the opportunity to win cash prizes. This year, Young Enterprising Society will be producing the competition, which is sponsored by Molson Coors. Applications are still open for this year’s pitch competition and the link can be found here: https://www.summerfest.com/tech/
Entering it’s 6th year, Startup Week will return this fall and return to in-person networking events. Startup Week is designed to connect, educate, and celebrate entrepreneurship throughout Wisconsin. Startup Week takes place throughout Wisconsin. During the week, attendees can attend a variety of events including- panel discussions, fireside chats, general networking, educational events, and pitch competitions. In the past, over 100 live events have taken place throughout the state. Planning is just underway for the 2021 event and more information will be available at: https://www.startupmke.org/
In early 2021, the Milwaukee startup, Wantable, opened a café on the ground floor of their new location as an employee perk. The 5,000 square space has now become a central hang out for entrepreneurs around the city. Through the help of WorkAround, a startup helping people find locations to work remotely, word has spread quickly and more and more entrepreneurs have made Wantable Café their go-to spot for working remotely. The space can currently hold approximately 300 people and there is talking of hosting formal happy hours in the space each Wednesday night after work. Wantable Café is located on 123 E Walker Street in the Walker’s Point neighborhood. Wantable is an online personal stylist service that mails users clothes to try and customize to fit their style.
The Milwaukee Night Market returns on August 18th at 5pm. The Market is a mashup of art, craft and food vendors, live art creation, local music and beer garden. The intent is to create a fun, safe, and interactive place in downtown for people to experience Milwaukee’s culture. The market attracts roughly 60,000 attendees each year. In 2021, the Market was acquired by the Westown Association from NEWaukee. The Milwaukee Night Market takes place on West Wisconsin Avenue between 2nd Street and Vel R Phillips Avenue (formally 4th Street). More information on the event and how to become a vendor can be found here in the link below. https://www.mkenightmarket.com/faqs
